V6 Navigation

Barb Varian has been a member of the V6 Ranch family for 24 years.  In all these years she has enjoyed the beauty of the V6 Ranch in her own unique way.  Hiking, photographing, riding, and reading have all been a part of what keeps her grounded.  Come join her for an all inclusive weekend for women only.

We will be discussing "Half Broke Horses", the story of Lily Casey Smith's life. Author Jeannette Walls, the granddaughter of Lily Casey Smith, wrote the book from Lily's point of view. Lily is portrayed as a strong, spirited, and resourceful woman, who overcomes poverty and tragedy with the positive attitude that "When God closes a window, he opens a door. But it's up to you to find it." As a child growing up on the frontier in Texas, Lily learns how to break horses. At the age of fiteen, she rides five hundred miles, alone, to get to her job as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse. Later in life, Lily runs a vast cattle ranch in Arizona, along with her second husband and their two children. A woman of many talents, Lily earns extra money at various points in her life by playing poker, selling bootleg liquor, and riding in horse races.

We’ll discuss this book as well as hiking the "Slope Field" where cattle and other critters abound.  You'll also have an opportunity to ride one of the V6 Ranch horses on a beautiful trail ride through the heart of this special place we call home. All of this, along with Barb’s favorite foods, sleeping in the Parkfield Lodge, and meeting new friends in an intimate setting here at the ranch.

Please keep an eye on the weather, we’ll be meeting rain or shine. Bring your hiking shoes, riding boots and an appetite for adventure. This is an all inclusive weekend for $650 per person, $550 per person (double room occupancy).  This even always fills up early, so please make your reservation early and let us know if you’re able to share a room at the V6 Ranch, Parkfield Lodge. A $300 deposit is required at the time of registration. Sign up ASAP because space is limited.
