A new water system for our cattle
Three generations of Varian men, making a plan.
Today I knew for sure that the we would have a third generation to care for the V6 Ranch. We are working on establishing infrastructure in our Slope Field, in order to promote better grazing conditions with more fencing and water distribution. I told my grandson Brinan several days ago, “You know every inch of the ranch, so I want you to design the system.”
Brinan called this Sunday morning to say that he wanted to show me his plan. So Brinan, his dad (John), and mom (Barb) picked me up in their side by side at 2:00pm and showed me how his plan works. He started by saying it sounds big and it is, with 5 miles of Poly pipe water line, 3.5 miles of barbed wire fencing, 13 water troughs and a solar pump driven water well. The plan also has a thousand feet of elevation change that creates almost 500 pounds of water pressure. I told him I don’t think we should exceed 150 pounds of pressure so it’s time for Brinan to get out his cell phone that I have a love-hate relationship with. Brinan has an app that has a topographic map of the ranch that gives elevation, distance, and severity of the terrain. Well, it took him but a few minutes to tell me where we needed to reduce pressure, how long the fence and its direction would be, and where each watering trough would be located. Something that would have taken me several days and lots of horseback riding then studying my paper Topo map for several hours to make sure that all figures were correct.
My grandson did the whole design by himself. As we drove around to the placement of fences and water troughs, I completely agreed with him. So I am happy to say that with this kind of talent, the V6 will go on.
See Ya,
Jack
