Don’t forget we need to keep on living
Easier said and hard to do, especially if a person spends much time listening to the the evening news or one of our 24 hour news channels. Gloom and doom is what they have to sell. Sad to say it, but it’s what keeps the money pouring into the coffers of N.B.C. and all the rest of our news sources. I think what’s different this time around is the constant barrage of bugle calls “with no time outs” always sounding the alarm bell in all of us that a new threat to our well being will be delivered at the next news broadcast.
Don’t touch your dial, but first a word from sponsors 1 through 20 then we will tell you of the next impending disaster that has one chance in a thousand or ten thousand or a google number that might turn your lights out. That means that in the case of one in a thousand their are 999 chances that nothing will go wrong. I don’t know why that doesn’t sell but for some reason in our D.N.A. we always look for the worst first. Now I’m not against some degree of caution but this whole COVID debacle has taken us to a land where laughter, civility and common sense are not to be found.
I know what we need are people like Will Rodgers who in the depth of the Great Depression of the 1930s put smiles on millions of faces and was proud to say “I never met a man I didn’t like”. Johnny Carson the talk show host of The Tonight Show that everybody couldn’t get enough of, lasted for 3 decades. The Red Skelton Show staring Red with all his zany characters like Clem Kadidlehopper. Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball and their long running I Love Lucy Show and anybody that couldn’t laugh til their sides hurt by watching The Carol Burnett show was someone to feel sorry for.
For me now, late night T.V. is just one step above the evening news. Folks we’ve got to get our civility and sense of humor back so that we might make better decisions about how we lead our daily lives. To close I think it’s time for “we the people” to take a deep breath, uncurl our toes, relax then read our U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights before we get our torches and burn down another town. We weren’t all created equal we were all created different each with a unique personality that if we look diligently using our uniqueness there is a place where you can find a “satisfied mind”.
It won’t be found where hate dwells.
See Ya,
Jack
