Oh what a beautiful day

At the end of November, one of my granddaughter Sage’s good friends got married at our V6 Ranch. Zee and I have been invited to the rehearsal dinner at the Parkfield Cafe. Thinking that this would be a somewhat sedate affair I couldn’t have been more out of step. Dinner was my favorite that beats any five-star restaurant hands down. It was beef or chicken tacos, take your choice, and I washed mine down with a nice glass of ice water. There were perhaps 70 to 80 mostly college kids to fill the cafe making glasses of water scarce as Coors Lite was the choice. We did have one thing in common and that was a karaoke machine that was top of the line as it had a screen with the words to whatever song you might want to sing printed in bold letters.

With my two tacos settled in my stomach, I was ready to sing something. I would have never considered doing this in my youth for what would my friends think, but at my age now it’s become quite easy to pump myself up with one of my favorite sayings: “What you think about me is none of my business.” I asked a new and wonderful addition to our family Cian Hamilton, who is married to my granddaughter Lauren and is a sound engineer, to get a song for me. He promised that he could make my voice sound tolerable. So with the microphone in hand, I glanced at the karaoke screen and it printed out a stanza to start with that was not to my knowledge the correct way to start. So I said to myself,” I’ll do it my way.” Oh, What A Beautiful Morning, Oh What A Beautiful Day, I’ve got a beautiful feeling that everything is going my way.

I think I permitted others to be silly, raucous, and happy that they had thrown off their armor of inhibitions to entertain others and then to enjoy their brief moment of fame.

                            See Ya,

                              Jack

My granddaughter Kathryn captured the moment on video.
